Associate Director

Position Summary

Fontanelle Academy of Early Learning seeks to hire an experienced Associate Director (AD) who enjoys leading a dynamic faculty and staff as we service children and families. The AD must be engaged administrative team member with the ability to develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for children that adheres to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards of accreditation and the Virginia Quality and Rating System (QRIS) process, the center’s Fontanelle Foundations™ Curriculum and Soft Spot Nourish and Care™ Method curriculum, and state licensing regulations. The AD must be a collaborative leader and effective communicator who values faculty, staff, and parent engagement. Cultural competency is necessary as the AD must have the ability to manage a diverse group of faculty, staff, and children. Responsibilities

Assist and support the Executive and/or Director in the daily operation of the center. Recruit new staff members and provide an orientation. Oversee NAEYC accreditation and the Virginia QRIS process, including monitoring adherence to program standards and practices, and completing application procedure. Develop schedules for faculty and staff members. Audit and update personnel and enrollment files annually. Conduct formal and informal observations to evaluate faculty and staff; provide counseling through immediate feedback and annual performance evaluations. Administer parent surveys annually; review feedback and set center-wide goals; assess progress at six month and 12-month marks. Review and edit staff and parent handbooks at least annually. Manage training requirements for staff members. Conduct center tours and provide program information to prospective clients. Substitute in classrooms as needed.

Education Qualifications

Required Qualifications

B.A./B.S. in Early Childhood Education or related field. One-year experience working with children birth through 12 years in a home or center setting.

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. in Early Childhood Education or related field. Two or more years experience working with children birth through 12 years in a home or center setting.

Knowledge/Skills/Duties

  • Familiarity with state licensing rules and regulations
  • Understanding of NAEYC accreditation standards and Virginia QRIS and requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in public speaking, written and oral communication, and interpersonal relations
  • Knowledge and ability to lead staff in implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Ability to respond well to unusual or crisis situations
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Capacity to understand and manage center/school financial duties

Responsible for supervision and direction of Full-Time Assistant Teacher, Part-Time Assistant Teacher(s), Part-Time Aide(s), Volunteers. Maintain all certifications as required. Ensure compliance with all Virginia Department of Social Services Commonwealth of Virginia rules and regulations.

Education Requirements

Required Qualifications
Infant/Toddler Classrooms: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent or must be enrolled in CDA program. Two years experience working with children birth to two years in home or center setting. Preschool Classrooms: B.A./B.S. in Early Childhood Education or related field; teacher licensure in early childhood. Two years experience working with children three to five years in a home or center setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Infant/Toddler Classrooms: B.A. or B.S. in early childhood education or related field. Three or more years experience working with children birth to two years in a center setting. Preschool Classrooms: Special education endorsement. Experience working with children with special needs and/or behavior disorders. One-year experience working in a preschool classroom.

Knowledge/Skills/Duties

Lead Teachers must perform all duties as assigned by the administrative team:

  • Assure safety for each child in early care
  • Administer medications according to policy
  • Maintain the supplies, order, arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment of the classroom
  • Greet each child and parent when child arrives and departs
  • Document all arrival/departure times and daily health observations for every child
  • Participate in developmental program for each child in early care and assures
  • Documentation of pertinent information
  • Guide activities for developmental goals as planned daily
  • Follow child and education schedule or changes from schedule as appropriate for each child
  • Complete daily sheet including comments daily
  • Complete documentation of all early care and education forms
  • Sign and proof all incident reports before giving it to parents in the absence of the Teacher
  • Use proper sanitary procedures in early care and education (diapering, hand washing, and tooth brushing)

  • Reports on progress of children in infant/toddler programs to administrative staff when in question
  • Serve as appropriate role model for all parents participating in infant/toddler programs

  • Perform proper cleaning of all toys, cribs, cots, feeding chairs and trays
  • Exchange toys, books and puzzles weekly and discards broken toys
  • Complete proper sweeping of floors and sanitizing of tables daily before and after serving meals
